NOVA, VODAFONE, MEET IN RED ROOM

A partnership between Nova Entertainment and Vodafone sees Rita Ora and Rudimental play Nova’s Red Room in Melbourne on November 20.

It’s Ora’s first live show in Australia since her 2013 tour and follows her double-platinum single ‘Your Song’, co-written by Ed Sheeran.

Rudimental return to Nova’s Red Room after performing in Dubai in 2015 as part of Red Room’s Global Tour.

The band’s single ‘Sun Comes Up’ featuring James Arthur was released earlier this year and is the first single off their upcoming third album.

SONY MUSIC ALL THE WAY UP WITH REMY MA

Sony Music Entertainment Australia will be distributing New York rapper Remy Ma’s future recordings after she signed a multi-millionaire dollar deal with Sony imprint Columbia Records.

She had been the centre of a bidding war.

Ma was on an upward trajectory when her debut album There’s Something About Remy dropped in 2008 and yielded a handful of anthems as ‘Whateva’ and ‘Conceited’.

But a year later, she was jailed for eight years for shooting a member of her entourage over a missing $3000.

After her release in 2014, she rolled back into the charts with a number of freestyles, and a collaboration with Fat Joe on the Grammy-nominated single ‘All the Way Up’. She also joined the cast of VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop New York.

CHRYSALIS ACQUIRES MORE PARLOPHONE ARTISTS

Chrysalis has bought more Parlophone artist catalogues from Warner Music, as part of its divestment deal with the indie sector, Music Week reported. Many were snapped up for their sync opportunities.

They were ‘60s British pop guitar band The Swinging Blue Jeans (including the hit ‘Hippy Hippy Shake’), dance trio Dario G (‘Sunchyme’, ‘Carnaval De Paris’), Lucinda Williams (1992 album Sweet Old World), Grant Lee Buffalo and Toumani Diabaté.

WA GOLDFIELDS WRITERS TORECORD NEW ALBUM

Buoyed by the success of its Sounds Of The Goldfields CD project, WAM follows up with another focus on the region’s talent. Demos From The Northern Goldfields features predominantly Indigenous artists from across the Northern Goldfields, and will be recorded November 13—26 in the historic Hoover House in Gwalia,

800km NE of Perth.

It was designed and resided in by one time local mine manager who went on to become the 31st President of the U.S.A., Herbert Hoover.

Demos From The Northern Goldfields due June 2018, will be recorded by Rada Studios owners Matt Gio and Dan Carroll with assistance from Drew Goddard of Karnivool.

The project comes together with support from presenting partner Goldfields Esperance Development Commission as well as the Regional Development Australia Goldfields Esperance and Minara Community Foundation (Minara Resources).

Sponsors include The Shire of Leonora, Skippers Aviation, Laverton Leonora Cross Cultural Association (LLCCA), Anglo Gold Ashanti and Halfway Studios.

KOBALT EXTENDS McANALLY DEAL

Kobalt has extended its worldwide deal with Grammy-winning US country songwriter Shane McAnally. It covers future works and back catalogue, as well as his Smack Songs publishing company which also signed young country writers.

McAnally has worked with artists including Kenny Chesney, Brandy Clark, Kacey Musgraves and Thomas Rhett.

UMPG PICKS UP STX

Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) will globally administer the movie sound libraries STXtv (which is working on cable and VR TV shows) as well as Lalela Production Music which can be heard in programs including American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance and The Real Housewives franchises.

PERTH STADIUM GETS A PIE(WO)MAN

The upcoming 60,000 seat sports and entertainment Perth Stadium will have local success story and pie maker Mrs Mac provide the snacks for the next five years.

The family-owned company began in the 1950s in a single bakery in Northridge is now national making 100 million pies, sausage rolls, pasties and quiches with a 350-strong staff.

DAN AUERBACH INKS SOUL SINGER TO LABEL

The Black KeysDan Auerbach has signed US soul singer Robert Fonley as the first act on his new Easy Eye Sound label.

“He’s one of the most dynamic personalities I’ve ever been around,” Auerbach explodes. “The first time I heard his voice in person, it almost knocked me over.”

Easy Eye is distributed locally through Warner Music Australia.

MUSIC FOR NATIONS MAKES ADDITION

Music For Nations, the UK metal label bought by Sony Music last year, has picked up a Blackpool band called Blanket who formed last year.

MFN is run by Visible Noise founder Julie Weir who discovered and developed Bring Me The Horizon.

MAPPING MELBOURNE SHOWS THE WAY

Multicultural Arts Victoria announced the 2017 program of Mapping Melbourne, a series of multi-artform events from December 1 –17 across Melbourne.

Partners including Arts Centre Melbourne, Malthouse Theatre, Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, No Vacancy QV, Testing Grounds and Temperance Hall.

They will host exhibitions, theatre, music, dance, multi-media, workshops and live art interactions showcasing independent contemporary artists exploring the theme of Asia and identity.
