Presto beats Netflix, Stan to market

Foxtel and Seven Media’s Presto subscription video-on-demand streaming service will enter on Sunday (January 18), beating rivals Netflix and Stan to the market.

It costs $9.99 a month for access to its TV or movie catalogues, from Seven, Foxtel and the ABC. A bundle of both services costs $14.99 a month.

It will be available for PC, Mac, iPads and via Google Chromecast, with Android tablets coming on soon. Subscribers can register for up to four devices, and watch two simultaneously.

Shaun James, Sydney-based Director of Presto and On Demand, said, "Presto TV will cater for viewers of all ages, and we are committed to adding new programming to our offering over time, giving our subscribers the opportunity to watch complete series and full seasons from some of the biggest producers, such as HBO, CBS Studios International, Showtime, and locally from Foxtel, Seven West Media and ABC Commercial.

"We will also have more exciting content announcements to make in coming weeks."

TV content includes The Sopranos, The Wire, Sex and the City, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, Californicationm Nurse Jackie, Wentworth, Love My Way, Tangle, Packed to the Rafters, All Saints and Always Greener.

US streaming giant Netflix is rumoured to launch on March 31 with a base service from $9.99. Fairfax and Nine Entertainment Co,’s Stan, which will cost $9.99 a month for TV and movies, is rumoured for a February bow.
