RICHIE SAMBORA / ORIANTHI TOUR SUPPORTS LEGACY

The Richie Sambora + Orianthi Australian tour, which kicked off in her hometown of Adelaide last night, is in a partnership with Legacy Australia. The association cares for the welfare of 80,000 veterans and their families. One of its initiatives is Roadie For A Day where veteran family members join their production team.

The Legacy roadies, who’ve lost family members in different wars, work in the VIP sections, getting it ready for fans and manage the photo opps.

The Adelaide roadies were Mackinley and Perrin Krause, whose parents both served in the Royal Australian Navy and are suffering from physical and psychological injuries.

Shay-Leah Martin, who’ll work at the Brisbane show on Friday, lost husband Jamie, a veteran of Afghanistan and East Timor, to bone cancer in 2016. Legacy is helping her settle into civil accommodation and ensuring her teen children finish studies.

SHANIA TWAIN, ANDREA BOCELLI, AT MAVERICK

Grammy-winning country pop singer Shania Twain and classical tenor Andrea Bocelli have joined Maverick Management. Bocelli will be co-managed by Maverick head Guy Oseary, Scott Rodger and Veronica Berti. Rodger will look after Twain.

The roster includes Madonna, Paul McCartney, U2, The Weeknd, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Fifth Harmony, Darius Rucker and Amy Schumer.

LASTLINGS GET SELECTED

Gold Coast duo Lastlings assigned their booking to Sydney-based Select Music. Owner and booking agent Stephen Wade will look after them personally. “Josh and Amy are two incredible talents … and we are looking forward to seeing them develop into a world class act,” he said.

They’re already booked for gigs until the end of January, including EMC:PLAY, Beyond The Valley and FOMO and a new single Time, which follows up You which won them a coveted slot in the triple j Unearthed High competition.

VIOLENT SOHO BREW IT ON

Queensland’s Violent Soho have teamed with Stone & Wood Brewing to create a brew called he East Coast Crusher. There’ll be a number of launch parties around the country on October 13 before the band hits the road with The Bronx and Luca Brasi. The first 50 at each show to present their ticket stubs at the bar gets a free taste of the Crusher.

MESA COSA AT 123

123 Agency’s latest signing, Melbourne outfit Mesa Cosa, are fast creating attention for sounding different. Dubbing themselves “Freakout Fuzz Ya Ya Gang”, the music covers garage-punk, Mexican folk and metal. Additionally front-man Pablo Alvarado who hails from Mexico City, switches between singing in his mother tongue and English. There;s also a touch of occult celebrations and Mexican death rituals.

Their 10-date Spill Em All Tour, which kicks off in Melbourne on Oct 22, travels the East Coast, includes a run over to Taiwan for the Love Love Rock Festival, and winds up at Victoria’s NYE on the Hill on December 31.

US AGENCY DEAL FOR ROLLING BLACKOUTS

Melbourne band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have assigned their North American bookings to Ground Control (who also work with Sleater-Kinney, Whitney, Neutral Milk Hotel and Total Control). The band emerged out of late night jam sessions in singer/guitarist Fran Keaney’s bedroom and released the mini-LP Talk Tight whose tracks got US media attention.

LIVE NATION APPOINTS AIR NEW ZEALAND

Promoter Live Nation Australia and New Zealand appointed Air New Zealand as its official airline partner for Live Nation New Zealand. The airline has over 15 million flights to and from NZ. Its Airpoints members gain access to benefits including exclusive reserved seating and VIP hospitality.

SONY MUSIC GETS AMERICA’S GOT TALENT WINNER

Sony Music Entertainment Australia landed America Got Talent winner Grace VanderWaal. The 12-year-old singer and ukulele player created waves at her first audition. Stevie Nicks later observed, “She reminds me a lot of me in a lot of ways. She’s got it. Whatever happens, Grace is going to the top.” VanderWaal struck a deal with Columbia Records in the US.

ARIANA GRANDE DEVISES CAT-EAR HEADPHONES

Singer Ariana Grande collaborated with Brookstone for limited-edition $150 cat-ear headphones. The 22-year old second fave look is a cat-ear headband (after her sky-high ponytail). The idea is that her fans can look like her – the headphones come in pink, green, purple or blue – while listening to her music.

ACE RADIO LEAVES SCA FOR TRSN

Regional ACE Radio Network has exited its national sales partnership with Southern Cross Austereo and moved to TRSN, which is owned by Grant Broadcasters. “They specialise in regional radio and represent live and local radio stations that are involved in their communities, just like ACE,” said CEO Mark Taylor. TRSN now represents 128 regional radio stations in 77 markets around Australia.

THE ORCHARD EXPANDS IN CHINA

The Orchard, the Sony Music-owned music, film and TV distribution company, which entered the Chinese market in 2014, has entered a digital deal with Taihe Music Group (TMG), It is the largest label group and music service provider in China. This allows the Orchard’s catalogue to be found in a more extensive list of platforms in that country and also release more C-Pop acts outside China.

MUSIC SA COMPILES PLAYLIST FOR WINES

During South Australia’s Hot 100 Wines judging process, Music SA will to pair local wine with local music through the curation of mood playlists for each district. “For example Adelaide Hills evoked folky forests and wintery classics while the Fleureau region conjured music that was more upbeat, vibrant and beachy,” it said. Music SA represents 900 acts.

SPINMEDIA SELLS TITLES

US blog publisher SpinMedia, which runs the Spin and Vibe sites, has sold Buzznet and PureVolume to US/Israel online company Hive Media. It continues to run Stereogum and Death & Taxes as well as entertainment sites Celebuzz, The Frisky, The Superficial, Celebslam and Go Fug Yourself.

MAX MARTIN RENEWS ASCAP TIES

Highly successful Swedish-born pop maestro Max Martin has renewed his agreement with ASCAP. Martin has notched up 22 US chart toppers, third only to Paul McCartney (32) and John Lennon (26).

Martin’s chart toppers have included Britney Spears’ …Baby One More Time, N’Sync’s It’s Gonna Be Me, followed by a run with Katy Perry (I Kissed a Girl, Teenage Dream, Roar), Taylor Swift (Shake It Off, Blank Space) and Pink (So What, Raise Your Glass), the most recent being Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop The Feeling.

LITTLE CUB AT DOMINO AUSTRALIA

Domino Records Australia will release Loveless, the debut single by London electro pop Little Cub. The band just signed to Domino in the UK in the wake of selling out residencies in their home city after the release of debut EP Breathing Space.

TINDER DATES SPOTIFY

In a deal with Spotify, Tinder users in 59 countries (including Australia and New Zealand) can see and play other people’s top songs directly from their Tinder profiles, with or without a Spotify account. Those with accounts can also see a list of artists you have in common with that potential match. You can also add a single track to your Tinder profile that best describes you.
