Lorde, Kings and Bic Runga among 20 APRA Silver Scrolls finalists named

Lorde, Kings, Bic Runga, Aldous Harding, Cut Off Your Hands and Lawrence Arabia are among the major names making up the Top 20 finalist list of New Zealand’s most prestigious song awards, the APRA Silver Scroll Awards.

The lucky nominees were chosen by fellow songwriters from 200 entries,with the 10,000-strong New Zealand members of the Australasian Performing Right Association now choosing five finalists from this shortlist as the nominees for the best song of 2017award.

The winner will be presented at Dunedin Town Hall on Thursday September 28.

Past recipients of the esteemed Silver Scroll include Dave Dobbyn, Don McGlashan, Shona Laing, Neil Finn, Bic Runga, Ray Columbus, James Milne & Luke Buda, Ella Yelich-O’Connor (Lorde) & Joel Little, and Aaron Young, Alisa Xayalith & Thom Powers (The Naked and Famous).

The other awards presented on the night are:

• APRA Maioha Award, celebrating exceptional waiata (songs) featuring te reo (Maori language)
• SOUNZ Contemporary Award, celebrating excellence in contemporary composition
• APRA Best Original Music in a Feature Film Award
• APRA Best Original Music in a Series Award

As a part of the celebrations APRA will also be inducting a songwriter/s into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame, with more details to be revealed closer to the event.
