Podcast: John Woodruff on The Angels, Baby Animals & the 20-year wait for global success

“Few practioners in the art of music have taken the path of this old friend of mine,” Rix says as he introduces John Woodruff in his new podcastFrom the Inside with Peter Rix.

From agent and manager to venue proprietor, music publisher, and even running an indierecord company, Woodruff has seen it all when it comes to the music business.

He got his start based on a referral from his girlfriend (now wife) Christine, managing a Christian band while he was still at university in Adelaide – but quickly got the sack.

“They were the first one to fire me, of a long string of bands who fired me,” Woodruffjokes.

Woodruff reflects the early Adelaide days with Cold Chisel and The Angels, his relationship withRay Hearn, passing on great bands because he didn’t “get it” andwhy forming Dirty Pool came from wanting to be in charge of his own destiny.

The interview is in two parts, and you can hear the second half – as well as chats with the likes of John Watson and Michael Coppel – over on PodcastOne.
