Double J reveals line-up and presenters

Re-branded ABC station Double J kicked off today at midday with a live broadcast from the Kelvin Club in Melbourne. Along with live performances from Paul Dempsey and Kate Miller-Heidke, Double J presenter Myf Warhurst revealed the stations full suite of programs, presenters and music content.

Meagan Loader, Double J Content Director, told TMN, “For years, triple j longed for more hours in the day, days in the week, so we could play even more music on the radio. With the launch of Double J, that wish comes true – giving us greater scope to get behind even more new Australian acts, including those from Unearthed making music for this demographic, plus supporting career artists that our audience have grown up with.”

The schedule to-date reads:
11am-3pm Weekdays: Myf Warhurst takes the helm each weekday for new releases, interviews with artists, a music quiz and highlights from the archive.
8-10pm Mondays: Singer-songwriter Emma Swift presents Revelator, a show dedicated to folk, alt-country, Americana, roots, rockabilly and folk rock.
8-10pm Tuesdays: Melbourne music fanatic Tim Shiel presents the eclectic Something More show.
8-10pm Wednesdays: Long-time broadcaster Karen Leng has previously hosted a show on 3RRR, was a triple j host in the 90s and held a pivotal role on ABC TV’s Recovery. Covering post rock, punk & pop, ambient and acoustic sounds, she shares her vast music knowledge on The Beat Eclectic.
8-10pm Thursdays: From August Double J broadcasts one of triple j’s most popular and revered programs, The J Files.
9am–12pm Saturdays: Champion of Australian music and triple j fave, Caz Tran plays new music, plus some of the best interviews and live music recordings from the triple j archives.
6–8pm Saturdays: Melbourne soul act The Bamboos’ Lance Ferguson joins the dots between indie, hip hop, soul and pop, as he presents Sky High to soundtrack Saturday nights.
3–5pm Sundays: Robert Forster (The Go-Betweens) kicks off the Artist In Residence series this Sunday, followed by The Cat Empire, Adalita & Kevin Mitchell, Henry Rollins and Iggy Pop.

Robert Forster says, “I like the idea of programming two hours of radio on a Sunday afternoon. I like the free hand I have in choosing the music I can play. And I like that a station exists to play adventurous music, a lot of it made by Australian artists, deserving to be heard by as many people as possible”.

doublej.net.au will feature videos, reviews, illustrations and a unique new audio player, as well as music writing from some of the country’s most well-informed music specialists: Assistant Music Director Dorothy Markek was most recently a music programmer for Channel [V] and Music Director at MAX TV. Music Editor Dan Condon has worked as a writer and editor for Brisbane’s Time Off magazine for the last nine years and was one of the founding editors of theMusic.com.au.

ABC Managing Director Mark Scott said at the event, “Double J strengthens the ABC’s Digital Radio offering by catering to the demographic between triple j and the other ABC networks. It provides an outlet for contemporary Australian music aimed at the over 30s on air, online and on mobile. We’re thrilled to be able to provide such a unique service and I’m confident that triple j’s management and programming expertise will make it a great success.”
