It took 31 years and three record deals for Brisbane-born musician Conrad Sewell to release a debut album.

But as TMN predicted, it was well worth the wait.

Life debuted in the top spot of the ARIA Albums Chart this week, pushing Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? to #2, and P!NK’s latest LP Hurts 2B Human to #3.

“This is a dream come true,” says Sewell, “it’s taken me such a long time to get this album out and it means so much to know that people are enjoying it.

“It’s not easy for an Australian artist to get a number one album on debut, I’m completely humbled and I’m really going to soak up this moment, it’s taken me a long time to get here.”

Sewell was this week’s Cover Story on TMN, where he opened up about working with music industry mogul Lyor Cohen, and reuniting with Sony Music chief Denis Handlin.

“I am absolutely delighted that Conrad’s brilliant first album has debuted at #1 on the ARIA albums chart,” said Handlin, AO, Chairman & CEO Australia & New Zealand and President, Asia, Sony Music Entertainment.

“Conrad is the real deal and he deserves this amazing success. I am so proud to have him as part of the Sony Music family.”

Life becomes the third #1 album from an Australian act in 2019, joining Hilltop Hoods (The Great Expanse) and Dean Lewis (A Place We Knew).

Sewell previously appeared on the albums chart with EP All I Know, which peaked at #9 in November 2015.

There are two more debuts in the Top 5 this week, too. Tyler, The Creator with his much-hyped Igor landing at #3 and Rammstein’s self-titled debut entering the chart at #5.

Elsewhere on the charts, Lil Nas X returns to the #1 spot on the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Old Town Road’ after dropping to #2 last week. It’s the track’s fifth week in the top spot.

Tyler, The Creator arrived on the singles chart at #11 this week with new single ‘Earfquake’, and Halsey’s second single of the year, ‘Nightmare’, entered the chart at #14.
