Cold Chisel tour: NRL Grand Final, first Aus act to play Hanging Rock, after “ballistic” demand
After it took a few minutes for 20,000 tickets to sell out for two shows in Sydney at the end of the year Cold Chisel have announced a full blown tour in spring.
The new round of dates was announced last night at the State Of Origin 1 match, before a crowd of 80,000, over 2.5 million TV viewers and “many millions” online.
Frontman Jimmy Barnes said the tour was a direct response to the instant sell-out of the closingSydney Entertainment Centre (now called the Qantas Credit Union Arena) where they will reprise the show of their legendary 1983 Last Stand tour.
"In March we played a homecoming show in Adelaide (the Clipsal 500) to 35,000 people," said Barnes. "Then when we announced these two shows in Sydney the reaction was ballistic. The demand blew our minds, suggesting that it was time for us to get back out there."
"We love playing together," added guitarist Ian Moss. "We've come to realise that there's a certain magic and chemistry in Cold Chisel that we don't get anywhere else and it makes a special connection with Australian audiences.”
The One Night Stand tour includes a mini-concert at the NRL Grand Final at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium and sees the veteran outfit becoming the first Australian act to headline at Hanging Rock in Victoria and Hope Estate in NSW’s Hunter Valley.
The Barnes, Moss, Don Walker, Phil Small and Charley Drayton lineup also do a mix of headlining slots at festivals and arenas.
