Chart Wrap: Sheppard and Chet Faker remain on top

ARIA SINGLES Brisbane six-piece Sheppard remain on top of the chart for the third week in a row. Surprisingly, this marks the first Australian single to remain at the peak position for more than a week since Guy Sebastian’s million-selling smash Battlescars hit the top in August 2012. Sia’s Chandelier also holds steady at #2 for a second week (two independent Australian artists in the top two!), while Wiggle by Jason Derulo and Snoop Doggy Dogg Liondebuted strongly, at #3. Rita Ora’s I Will Never Let You Down has climbed again, jumping from #16 to sit at #5 in only its third week in the chart. Justin Timberlake’s Not A Bad Thing has also jumped into the Top 10, moving from #15 to #10. Elsewhere Fade by Zhu debuted highly, in at #14 first week, as did Bad by David Guetta, Showtek and Australian vocalist Vassy – in at #21. Other debuts this week are One Republic’s Love Runs Out at #22, Midnight by Coldplay at #25 and the shimmering West Coast by Lana Del Rey at #44. ARIA ALBUMS Chet Faker remains at #1 for a second week, eerily mirroring the Singles chart statistic of being the first Australian to have sat at the peak for consecutive weeks since August 2012, when the Sapphires soundtrack achieved this feat. Australia independent artists at the top of both ARIA charts is a pleasing trend we’d love to see continue. Below him the Frozen soundtrack has climbed to #2, switching places with INXS’ best of collection, which fell to #3. With Mauboy’s Never Be The Same sitting at #7 in the Singles chart, her album Beautiful has jumped from #17 to hit #4, one spot shy of its highest place, and the first time its been in the Top 10 since last October. Go Jess! The highest debut this week comes from UK’s Paolo Nutini, whose third record Caustic Love debuted at #6, his highest Australian chart position to date. After last week’s impressive #4 debut, Russell Morris’ Van Diemen’s Land remains in the Top 10, at #7 – making this the most successful phase of his long career. JB, you’ve done it again. Their drastic discounting of Nickelback’s Best Of has seen the collection re-enter the chart at #11. Derulo’s repackaged Tattoos has re-entered at #13, no doubt due to the inclusion of #3 single Wiggle. Lower in the chart we find debuts from Zhu’s The Nightday EP which enters at #20, New Empire’s In A Breatheat #28, and Bonjah’s Beautiful Wildat #41. HOT 100* This week sees Sheppard’s Geronimo take the #1 spot on the Hot 100, also sitting on top of the ARIA Singles Chart for the third straight week. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. The bigger story this week on the Hot 100 however is that One Republic’s single Love Runs Out has jumped an astounding 50 places from #60 to #10. The track is now set to swiftly climb the Top 10. Other big movements this week include David Guetta & Showtek’s Bad which jumps #61 to #40, Avicii’s Lay Me Down which moves from #43 to 27 and Samantha Jade’s Up! which heads up the chart from #34 to #17. *written by Daniel Respall.
