Chart Wrap: Sheeran scores his first Aussie #1

ARIA SINGLES As predicted by our mid-week chart wrap, Ed Sheeran’s Sing has debuted in pole position on this week’s chart, bolstered by his cheeky promo appearance in the country last week. Despite having landed five previous singles in the ARIA Top 10, this marks his first #1 in Australia. A late-week charge by Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea’s Problem sees it debut at #4 – an impressive result from half a week’s worth of sales. Azalea has had a good week all around, debuting at #2 on the Albums chart while her single Fancy jumps from #17 to land inside the Top 10, at #9. Two Top 10 singles, and a #2 album – not a bad week at all. Sheppard’s Geronimo dropped to #2, after a two-week stint at the top, while Jason Derulo and Snoop Dogg’s think-piece Wiggle has held steady at #3. The biggest mover this week belongs to David Guetta, Showtek and Aussie lass Vassy, whose Bad leapt 16 spots to hit #5. Sia’s Chandelier would appear to be on the way out, dropping from #2 to #6, although it may be too premature to write the track off – two big debuts, and a surge from Guetta seems to be the reason for Sia’s fall, not a halt in sales. Likewise for Rita Ora’s I Will Never Let You Down, and Calvin Harris’ Summer, which both dropped slightly: from #5 to #7, and #4 to #8, respectively. Highest debut outside the Top 5 this week comes from Sam Smith, whose Stay With Me entered at #22, following a strong first week at commercial radio. Another debuts came from Avicii’s Lay Me Down, at #34, Stolen Dance by Milky Chance at #35, and Marilyn Monroe by Pharrell, at #40. Elsewhere, Katy Perry’s genre-blending Birthday leapt from #34 to #25, Hearts Of Fire by Passenger moved from #38 to #26, and Let It Gofrom Idina Menzel – one of two versions of the Frozen track serviced to commercial radio today – jumped from #40 to sit at #27. ARIA ALBUMS The biggest non-Saturday Night Fever soundtrack of all time hits #1 in its 18th week in the charts, holding out both Aussie Iggy Azalea and The Vamps (who seem to be the new McFly in the UK) from a #1 debut. Azalea’s debut record The New Classic instead entered at #2, with The Vamps self-titled debut landing at #3. Chet Faker’s Built On Glass dropped from #1 to #4 to make way for the barrage, while Michael Buble’s To Be Loved re-entered the ARIA Top 50 at #5, due to his upcoming national arena tour/you realising Mother’s Day is this weekend. MKTO also made a huge jump back into the Top 10, moving from #43 to #9. ABBA Gold and More also enters the Top 10, moving from #12 to #9 and proving we are, indeed, their biggest non-Scandinavian market. With Sing debuting at #1 and Sheeran in the country, his debut + climbed from #36 to #12, in its 101th week in the chart. Other impressive first weeks came from Mark Vincent, whose best of crashed in at #17, Sol3 Mio’s self-titled set at #20, Andre Rieu’s Magic Of The Musicals at #29 (Holy Mother’s Day!), plus Everyday Robots by Damon Albarn (#26) and Indie Cindy by The Pixies (#21), just to even things out a little. A little lower, live record You Make Me Brave by Bethel Music (“a community of worshippers and artists pursuing the presence of God and sharing life together”) debuted at #34, Disclosure’s Settle moved up from #48 to #35 following their recent tour and, in further proof you all love your mothers, Engelbert Calling by Engelbert Humperdinck and My Land by Celtic Thunder debuted at #40 and #50. TMN HOT 100 Sheppard clings onto the top spot for a second week, but both Calvin Harris and Justin Timberlake are coming hard, with Harris’Summerjumping from #4 to #2, while JT climbs from #6 to #3. Sia drops from #3 to #4, however don’t writeChandelieroff just yet. Clean Bandit’sRather Beseems to be on the way out though, falling from #2 to #5. Considering the track hit the top spot a few weeks ago, I’m sure this isn’t too much of an issue for Warner. David Guetta’sBadand Jason Derulo’sWiggleare both climbing rapidly, moving from #40 to #18 and #38 to #23. Lower, Passenger’sHearts On Fireleaps from #51 to #34, while Lorde’s Glory and Gore makes a big move from #90 to #54.
