Chart Wrap: Kylie is number one; nine albums debut in the top 20

TMN HOT 100 Pharrell, you may still be number one on our chart, but we predict this may be your final week at the top, as David Guetta is rising quickly, and ready to shoot you down (see what happened there?).While Clean Bandit seems to have stalled at #2 Buzz Aldrin-style, She Looks So Perfect by Sydney lads 5 Seconds Of Summer is rising quickly, moving from #8 to #5, as is Kim Cesarion’s Undressed, which moved to #6 from #11. A little lower down there was significant upward movement by Taylor Henderson – whose When You Were Mine (sadly not a Prince cover) jumped from #51 to #17 in only its second week in the chart – and Peking Duk’s High, leaped up to #18 from #29. The highest new entry came from Calvin Harris and the seasonly-unsuitableSummer which entered at #35. A little lower, Tsunami byDVBBS and Burgeous came in at #45, the very-Maroon 5-sounding Rixton entered at #47 with Me and My Broken Heart, while Route 94’s My Love entered one spot lower, at #48. Go team! ARIA SINGLES Considering how drastically the ARIA Albums chart changed this week (spoiler alert: the ARIA Albums chart drastically changed this week), it’s quite surprising how static things remained in the top reaches of the Singles chart, with numbers one, two, three and four holding steady, and Coldplay’s Magic shuffling up a spot to sit at #5. The biggest leap this week came from #Selfie, which moved from #30 to #7, and is quickly becoming the next Harlem Shake – make what you will from that comparison. Pitbull’s Wild Wild Love moved from #24 to #12, and one place below it Canberra lads Peking Duk’s High jumped from #20 to #13. The highest debut was Duke Dumont I Got U at #17, followed by Calvin Harris’ Summer, which entered at #21. ARIA ALBUMS Our Kylie has debuted at number one with her 12th studio album, Kiss Me Once, her fourth record to do so – and the first Aussie album to top the charts in 2014. Surprisingly Kylie’s first number one album didn’t come until 2000, when Light Years hit the top spot, followed by the massive Fever record in 2001, which has sold over half a million copies in Australia alone. 2007’s X is her other record to hit #1. It was a big week of high-placing debuts: Kate Miller-Heidke landed at #4 first week with her O Vertigo! record – her third top five debut, after previous albums Curiouser and Nightflight both debuted at #2. One place below her entered Skrillex’ Recess, which – despite his seeming ubiquity over the past few years – is actually his debut album (although he has released six solo EPs, and two albums as the vocalist of the quite-good punk band From First To Last). Other high debuts this week came from Foster the People, whose Supermodel landed at #8; George ’Jitterbug’ Michael, who debuted at #11 with Symphonica;UK hardcore bandArchitects, who landed at #13 with Lost Forever, Lost Together;Asgeir’s In the Silence (#18);Toby Keith 35 Biggest Hits (#19); and Morgan Evans’ self-titled record, at #20 – meaning almost half of this week’s top twenty is made up of new entries.
