5 Seconds of Summer heating up at three global awards

5 Seconds of Summer will be notching up the Frequent Flyer points through November as they appear on no less than three awards ceremonies.

The Sydney band, already up for five categories at the 2014 MTV European Music Awards (EMAs), have now also won through public online voting, Best Australian/New Zealand Act. There are 35 acts representing different regions, including Justin Bieber for Canada, Fifth Harmony for the US, the Philippines’ Sarah Geronimo for Southeast Asia, BiBi Zhou for China & Hong Kong and Hebe Tien as the winner in Taiwan.

The final ten are unveiled on October 30. The winner of the category is announced at the EMAs in Glasgow on Sunday November 9. It will be broadcast here on the 10th on Foxtel’s MTV Australia.

Nicki Minaj, who is hosting the event, is also performing, as are Calvin Harris, Charli XCX, Kiesza, Royal Blood, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran.

5SOS have also been asked to perform at the American Music Awards at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre on November 23 alongside Mary J Blige, Pitbull and Sam Smith. The Australians vie against Smith for New Artist of the Year while fellow NSW-er Iggy Azalea is up for six nominations.

5SOS will then hastily return to Sydney to perform at the ARIA awards on November 26 alongside Hilltop Hoods, Chet Faker, Sheppard and Justice Crew.

The band are currently rehearing in Sydney for US theatre shows, and celebrating that their Good Girls video notched up 4.5 million views in a matter of weeks.
