Wojcicki to head YouTube; Shipley moves to Moshcam; new names at Screen Australia

Google names new head of YouTube

Google named Susan Wojcicki, VP Ads and Commerce, as the new head of YouTube. She replaces Salar Kamangar who is moving to another post at Google. Google CEO Larry Page said, “Like Salar, Susan has a healthy disregard for the impossible and is excited about improving YouTube in ways that people will love.” Wojcicki joined Google in 1999 as its first Marketing Manager.

Phil Christie new A&R head at Warner Bros. UK

Phil Christie is the new Head of A&R at Warner Bros. Records UK. At his previous gig, as Senior A&R Manager at publisher Warner/Chappell, he signed London Grammar, Tom Odell, Ben Howard and new buzz band Royal Blood who recently signed to Warner Bros. UK.

Moshcam appoints Daniel Shipley for sales & partnership

Moshcam, the online channel of originally-produced live music videos, announced Daniel Shipley as National Sales and Partnerships Manager, effective immediately. He was account director at News Corp Australia working across major mastheads and servicing its biggest agency client. Moshcam CEO Stephen Peach said Shipley’s ”wealth of media, sales and agency experience” was integral as the firm expanded here and overseas.

New CCO for Quickflix

Movie streaming service Quickflix hired its first Chief Content Officer Kristin Marlow (ex-digital channel SBS2, Foxtel’s arts channel Studio, Captain and The Chief) to take charge of its strategic direction.

Echo CEO John Redmond quits

Casino operator Echo Entertainment, whose flagship property is Sydney’s Star, has lost its Chief Executive John Redmond.  He quit suddenly, after a disappointing half-year result, with profit dropping 30.5% to $46.1 million. The new CEO is its Chief Financial Officer Matt Bekier, effective May. Echo has yet to replace Star managing director Frederic Luvisutto who quit in December.

Murray St Leger promoted to CEO of Copyright Agency 

Murray St Leger is now CEO of Copyright Agency. He was deputy CEO for the past year. He replaces Jim Alexander who moves to Public Affairs and International director part-time. St. Leger was long time board member of the Australian Publishers Association, and was its President in 2009/10.

Mitch Fresta joins SGC

Mitch Fresta joined Stephen Green’s Brisbane-based publicity, label services and new media marketing company SGC. He replaces Roxy Burt.

Stuart Coupe hosts 2SER show

Laughing Outlaw founder and author Stuart Coupe hosts a new show Dirt Music, on the expanse and history of roots music, which launches on Sydney community radio station 2SER on February 15.

New operators for Bended Elbow

Geelong music venue Bended Elbow is making a return with two new operators. Kym Robertson (Home House, Growlers, Eureka, Carlton Hotel) and Don Little have taken over the lease of the now empty building. Under the new name Bended, they will feature live music once licensing is approved.

Octagon bolsters Asian operation

Sports and entertainment marketing agency Octagon has bolstered its Asian presence, with Group Commercial Director Adam Hodge moving from Sydney to Singapore as Regional Strategy Director. Last year, Ben Hartmann moved from Sydney to Singapore as the Southeast Asian GM.

Burgess duo leave Tamworth venue

After announcing that the owner of Tamworth venue the Central Hotel is about to embark on renovations, long time licensees Gary and Belinda Burgess announced they were quitting after 18 years, on March 8.

New names at Screen Australia

Screen Australia refreshed its senior leadership team with Sally Caplan (ex-International One Films) as head of production and one-time Commonwealth Government solicitor Jane Supit as head of legal services.
