Will Taylor Swift be the first artist to debut at #1 on the TMN Hot 100?

Not once in the history of the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart has a song debuted at #1.

In 2017, Harry Styles entered the chart at #3 with ‘Sign Of The Times’, equalling the highest debut position set by Delta Goodrem’s ‘Out Of The Blue’ way back in 2004.

The 13-year record was emphatically broken just four months later by Taylor Swift.

Reputation’s first single ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ tapped out at #2 on its first charting week as radio lapped up the first taste of Taylor since her ZAYN collab ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’.

Taylor is now looking to go one better with new single ‘ME!’ ft. Brendon Urie, the first cut off her yet-to-be-named seventh studio album.

AirCheck data reveals CHR stations in every capital city are profusely spinning the track. At the time of writing, Hit92.9 Perth has played ‘ME!’ 38 times in just under three days, the most of any metro station in Australia.

Standing between her and the summit is a heavily fortified Top 3 consisting of radio legacy acts Sam Smith, Jonas Brothers and P!NK.

Working in Taylor’s favour is the fact that the Top 3 are slowly succumbing to the inevitable gravity of the charts. Together, the trio of acts shed 3.8% of spins from the previous seven days and look likely to see further drops this week.

If Taylor pulls off the chart-topping feat, ‘ME!’ will naturally be the quickest single to ever make it to the summit.

That honour is currently shared by Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran and Katy Perry among others – in fact, nine singles from seven different artists have hit the top after only two weeks.

Whether it happens this week or not, it seems inevitable that Taylor will once again grace the chart’s summit and register the sixth chart-topping single of her illustrious career.

Stay tuned Thursday for the new edition of TMN’s Hot 100 Airplay Chart.
