Channel 7 releases ‘blockbuster’ look at The Voice

Channel 7 is ramping up its promo efforts for The Voice, releasing an extended trailer featuring the judges Jessica Mauboy, Rita Ora, Guy Sebastian and Keith Urban.

The two-minute ad features the judging panel performing Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’, and was shot over two days across six locations. It was directed by ARIA Award-winning James Chappell.

Sebastian is the only judge returning from last year’s series. In 2020, when the show was on Channel 9, Sebastian sat alongside Delta Goodrem, Kelly Rowland and Boy George.

The show has since been picked up by Channel 7, along with an impending revival of Australian Idol next year, as the station attempts to reach a younger demographic.

Mauboy said filming the trailer was a dream come true.

“We are used to filming music videos for our solo careers, so being able to stand alongside three other incredible performers and share this moment was surreal,” she said. “Performing this incredible song with my dear friend Guy and getting to perform with my new coach family Keith and Rita was beyond.”

Sebastian, meanwhile, said it was the “most epic” promo he’d ever been a part of.

“It was a lot of fun, especially the parts in the lift where I think some of my fellow coaches were about to throw up,” he added. “It was great hanging with my Voice family and also working with James Chappell, who has directed seven music videos for me. He killed it. I can’t wait to see it all come together on television.”

UK import Ora said it takes an army to put together a shoot of this scale, and the team nailed it.

“I can’t think of a better way to launch a season this big than with a promo so fabulous,” she said. “Everything from the song, my pink Cadillac and the powerhouse location was absolutely breathtaking.”

The 10th season of The Voice – the first for Channel 7 – has wrapped filming and is due to screen after the Olympics.

It will be hosted by Sonia Kruger.
