Spotify lists Top 20 rock acts (with surprising artist taking out #1)

Spotify has just announced the Top Rock acts of 2017, in celebration of International Day of Rock N Roll, withColdplaytakingout the number one position on Spotify across the global and Australian lists.

Missing out on the number one position, Twenty One Pilots takes out the second spot,with The Beatles, Linkin Park and Red Hot Chili Peppers featuring in the Top Five.

International Day of Rock N Rollwas first celebrated onon July 13 1985to markLive Aid.

Along with the top rock songs, Spotify has highlighted rock-themed playlists.

Top genrecollectionssuch as Rock This, New Noise and Rock Hard have over 200,000 listeners.

However, looking at10 of the top Rock playlists, not one of them features Coldplay or Twenty One Pilots. While it’s not like either act really needs the boost that a coveted spot in those collections can offer, it’s an interesting little disconnect between artist-genretags and genre playlists.
