Sounds Australia confirms second trade mission to South America

Sounds Australia confirms second trade mission to South America

After its first visit last year, music export body Sounds Australia has confirmed it is leading a second trade mission to South America.

A number of Australian music executives and artists will be in Chile, Argentina and Brazil between November 28 and December 16.

“Ever since our last visit, we have been anxious to get back to one of, if not the, most exciting music region in the world,” said Sydney-based Executive Producer Millie Millgate.

“To be able to showcase three Australian artists in our second year is a testament to the relationships that were forged during the first mission and the ever-increasing opportunities being heralded for artists and business across Latin America”.

Delegates on the trade mission, representing a strategic mix of industry, across genres and sectors, are:

Bonnie Dalton, Manager, Custom Made.

Maggie Collins, Festival Programmer of BIGSOUND and triple j announcer.

Nicola Pitt, Label Manager, CAAMA Music.

Pete Keen, Founder/Creative Director, Sugar Mountain festival

Philip Mortlock, Creative Director, Origin Music Group.

Steve Cross, co-founder, Remote Control.

Steve De Wilde, Manager, Unified Music Group.

Sounds Australia’s globally acclaimed Aussie BBQ will be staged in Buenos Aires, Argentina (December 4 & 5) with four dates locked in across three major music festivals, showcasing three Australian acts.

Ali Barter, DZ Deathrays and The Kite String Tangle were selected for their potential to appeal to South American music fans

They were chosen by the music programmers of the three festivals (SIM, Fluvial and EN ÓRBITA) along with a number of South American promoters, booking agents, media, record label executives and other music identities contacted by Sounds Australia.

The South American trade mission has the support of the Commonwealth Government through the Australian Cultural Diplomacy Grants Program of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

This year, the Australian embassies and high commissions respectively, in Argentina, Brazil and Chile, are also involved.

Also joining the Australians, in partnering with the CAB Music Trade Mission Tour this year, are Canadian delegations lead by cultural development association Sodec, Quebec and the Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA).
