Beats 1 gives Haim their own show

Australian listeners of Apple Music’s free global radio service Beats 1 can soon hear Haim(pictured) on their own show, tentatively titled Haim Time. The three Californian sisters are the latest of artists – including St Vincent, Elton John, Josh Homme and Disclosure – who are Beats 1 radio hosts.

Huw Drury takes redundancy

Due to the ABC’s restructure of its regional radio business, NSW Regional Content Director Huw Drury has taken a redundancy package.

New Chair for Canada’s CARAS

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences and the Juno Awards named Mark Cohon its new Chairman, effective September 29. As Commissioner of the Canadian Football League (CFL), Cohon transformed its business model and built attendances, TV ratings and corporate partnerships. The 49-year-old is the son of McDonald’s Canada founder George Cohon.

Geelong promoters create new laneway festival

Michael Ward and Kieran Blood, who run Geelong’s Great Australian Beer Festival, are behind new laneway-style festival StreetLife on Sat Nov 14. Playing the Victorian regional city’s unused laneways and alleyways in its arts and cafe precinct are The Delta Riggs, Jinja Safari and triple j DJ Sarah Howell with local acts.

New Communications VP for Vevo

Vevo named Jon Carvill its new VP of Communications, based in its San Francisco headquarters. He had similar roles at mobile and wireless-related Qualcomm and OnCue.

Hills SV exec departs

Pro audio company Hills SV’s Head of Audio Visual Products, Richard Neale, is leaving next month to join a smaller audio visual distributor.

Two London promotions at ASCAP

ASCAP promoted two of its London-based executives who cover Europe for it. Simon Greenaway is now Senior Director, Membership UK & continental Europe; and David Ryan Jordan upped to Director, Membership UK & continental Europe.

Greenaway is a composer who’s had four Top 20 hits in the UK and three dance chart toppers in Europe and helped Charlotte Church sell 3 million records. Jordan was a member of the EMI-signed band Air Traffic and signed UK acts as Years & Years, Jess Glynne, Royal Blood and Jungle to ASCAP for the US.

Boom radio teams land jobs

Two teams of Perth’s Central Institute of Technology’s in-house Boom Radio have landed in the NSW industry. Advanced Diploma in Radio courses students Christian Dichiera and Kane Coelho who did Boom’s drive show are new breakfast team for ZOO FM in Dubbo.

Graduates and Boom breakfast team Tim Collins and Tayla Golesworthy are now on Radio 97 Tweed Heads.

Australia’s David Hill to co-produce Oscars telecast

Australia’s David Hill was tapped by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the 88th Oscars telecast to 225 countries. Emmy-winning Hill will co-produce with Oscar-nominated producer-director Reginald Hudlin (Django Unchained, Boomerang, The Great White Hype, Comedy House Party). The Academy Awards are held in America on Sunday Feb 28 and broadcast in Australia on Feb 29.

Hill was a long time media figure in Australia. He worked for Nine Network and for Rupert Murdoch at Sky Television, the Fox Networks, Fox Sports and 21st Century Fox. He also EP’d the last two seasons of American Idol.

Melbourne promotions at MediaCom

After a turbulent period, MediaCom Australia made two promotions at its Melbourne office. Anny Havercroft is now Managing Director Melbourne. Her previous role as GM Melbourne is filled by Head of Implementation Planning and Investment, Brett Elliott.

Team named for Lost At E Minor channel

Digital media company Conversant Media is setting up video channels for two of its website for mobile users and advertisers. Culture site Lost At E Minor’s channel is eMinor.TV and its sports Roar site will be TheRoar.TV. It is part of the company’s new creative services division Conversant Create, which is run by Commercial Integrations Manager Sorrel Kesby, with support from digital producer Elise Boyd, Mumbrella reported.

Aussie comic Ronny Chieng lands US TV role

Australian comic Ronny Chieng is one of three new correspondents for USA’s Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.

Tech veteran at Snakk Media

Technology industry veteran Peter James is new Chair and Executive Director for mobile advertising technology company Snakk Media, based in Sydney.

Michèle Hamelink joins Sony ATV's pan European A&R team

Michèle Hamelink is now the European A&R Scout for Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

Hamelink has worked at Sony/ATV’s Benelux office in Amsterdam since April 2012. She joins a team headed up by Guy Moot, Sony/ATV UK Managing Director and President, European Creative. The team also includes London-based Joint Head of UK A&R and VP International A&R David Ventura, A&R Europe SVP and Deputy Managing Director Scandinavia Johnny Tennander and European Head of Songpitching Lasse Ewald, both of whom work out of Stockholm, and Berlin-based Senior Manager A&R/European Creative Max Paproth.

The team’s successes include Martin Solveig’s hits Hello and Intoxicated, Klingande’s Jubel, and Milky Chance’s Stolen Dance.
