Moreappointments to IFPI board

Following on from the appointment of Norway’s Jørn Dalchow, as reported in TMN, IFPI announced Malaysia’s Norman Abdul Halim to its main board.

Halim will also join its Asia regional executive board. He is a significant figure in Malaysia’s and Asia’s music sectors, as EP of indie label KRU Music (set up after being a member of pop group KRU) and Chairman of the Recording Industry of Malaysia as well as VP of the Malaysian Film Producers’ Association and Chairman of the National Anti-Piracy Awareness Committee.

President and CEO of Concord Music Group Glen Barros was reappointed after representing North American indie labels over the past three years.

Desi Leary new EP for GOLD104.3

Desi Leary, who held senior producer roles at ABC774 and Melbourne talk radio 3AW is new Executive Producer of Brig & Lehmo at GOLD104.3.

Adam Bandt gets Greens’ arts portfolio

Adam Bandt, sole Greens’ MP in the Federal House of Representatives now has the arts portfolio. The one-time industrial lawyer worked with the music industry with initiatives to increase musicians’ annual wage, music projects to be eligible for Centrelink obligations and a $3 million scheme for payments to musicians and artists who perform or speak about their works.

New Artistic Director for Port Fairy festival

Iain Grandage takes over next year as Artistic Director of October’s Port Fairy Spring Music. The five-time Helpmanns winner did theatre scores for Cloudstreet and The Secret River and had his work performed by Eddie Perfect, Katie Noonan, Gurrumul, Kate Miller-Heidke and Tim Minchin.

Fennessys remaining with Endemol Shine Australia

After announcing they were leaving the newly merged Endemol Shine Australia, Mark and Carl Fennessy are now staying on as co-CEOs. They said, “We’re genuinely excited about being part of the next chapter for a combined Australian business within Endemol Shine Group.”

David Mott, Nine’s Perth Managing Director had been expected to fill the role.

Endemol CEO Janeen Faithful resigned at the end of April.

Another Aussie rep for NZ’s MediaWorks

NZ MediaWorks adds its sales representation in Australia, with Gaylene Riminton sent over Client Service Director. Riminton who began her 15-year career at Austereo Sydney, joins Australia Group Manager Emma Thomas.

Ted Pretty leaves as CEO of Hills

Ted Pretty is no longer CEO of Adelaide-based audio visual Hills Ltd. COO Grant Logan takes his position. Pretty arrived in September 2012 and made sweeping changes, moving from licensing deals to manufacturing. Key staffers who were let go, took their skills to rivals. Hills said its second half earnings will be lower than the six months to December 2014, when profit dropped 36% to $9.02 million and revenue up 0.6% to $227 million.

New Chair for Keystone

Richard Facioni, a Director of Sydney pub group Keystone, takes on the Chairman role after CEO Grant Blackley left after 12 months (during which he expanded it nationally) to take on CEO duties at Southern Cross Austereo.

hit105 CD resigns

Brisbane's hit105 Content DirectorDonna Puechmarinhas resigned after a 15-year career in radio. Puechmarin worked in admin,sales, programming and producing. She worked asBreakfast producer at B105, then took up the role of Content Director roles at SAFM then. In 2013, she worked at 2Daybefore returning to B105/hit105 last year.

Canberra FM gets new CD

The Content Director role at Canberra FM’s Mix and 104.7 left vacant by Steve Woods is now filled by Jason Matthews from the Gold Coast.

Diane Marsh new Executive Director for Sounz

Arts practitioner and administrator Diane Marsh is the new Executive Director of SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music. It champions the music of local composers and houses recordings, films and scores of NZ music and performances. Marsh was former Manager of the NZ String Quartet and GM of Orchestra Wellington, and the third Composing Women’s Festival in 1999.

Two additions to Digby Law

Shortly after moving its Sydney offices to the cultural hub of Surry Hills, entertainment law firm Digby Law announced two additions to the team.

Senior Solicitor Renee Brunero has ten years’ experience with clients in creative industries here and the UK, specialising in intellectual copyright.

Practice Manager Anne Duroux studied performing arts, worked in film/TV production, and is studying Law at Charles Darwin University.

Capitol promotes Michelle Jubelirer to COO

Capitol Music Group promoted its EVP of two years, Michelle Jubelirer, to COO. Included in Billboard’s Power 100 and Women In Music lists for her deal-making skills, she’ll work with its labels as Capitol, Virgin, Motown, Blue Note, Harvest, I.R.S. Nashville and Astralwerks. CMG now represents 7.1% of the U.S. market (albums plus track-equivalents).

89.9 Light FM drive team move

89.9 Light FM Melbourne’s drive team Cam & Ruthie (Cam Want and Ruthie Lazaro) tare move off air to back-scene positions at the station.

New breakfast host at Spirit FM

Allan Aldworth is new breakfast host of Redwave Media’s Spirit FM in Broome, WA. He was PD and breakfast host for Boom Radio, the in-house station for Perth’s Central Institute of Technology.
