Jake Bugg returns in April, with just acoustic guitar

After visits in 2013 and 2016, UK singer songwriter Jake Bugg is returning to Australia for a solo acoustic tour in April.

It’s behind the release last year of the 23-year old’s fourth album Hearts That Strain, which he recorded in Nashville.

Harking back to his long-time love for country music, the album has a number of unexpected collaborations.

The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach helped with some of the songs, and played guitar on what became the first single, ‘How Soon The Dawn’ as well as ‘I Can Burn Alone’ and ‘In The Event of My Demise’.

There was the crack house band of the American Sound Studio – who previously worked with Elvis Presley on ‘Suspicious Minds’ and ‘In The Ghetto’.

Excited at working with these legends, Bugg was also impressed by their practical approach to recording.

“At five o’clock, they’d stop and pack up, and we start again the next day.”

Miley Cyrus’ little sister Noah, 17, also makes an appearance.

“Her father Billy Ray dropped in to see my producer David Ferguson, they’re friends, and he heard the song ‘Waiting’ and really liked it.

“He thought it would be perfect for Noah, so he got her to record her vocal parts in Los Angeles and send it over. We never actually met.”

Bugg says he’s a writer, “not a great singer, and she made it sound really good.”

He’s been doing his solo acoustic shows through Britain since late last year.

Secret Sounds Presents has him at:

Thursday April 19 – The Factory, Sydney

Friday April 20 – The Croxton Bandroom, Melbourne

Saturday April 21 – The Triffid, Brisbane
