Icehouse launches footwear range

Icehouse are putting into action a line from their 1988 hit We Can Get Together, “You ought to be in my shoes.” It has launched a range of footwear designed in collaboration with Icehouse leader Iva Davies, and produced by new Melbourne company Nookiee.

The design of each of the hand-stitched leather runners is based on the artwork of an Icehouse album or song. The one for Crazy, however, which comes in red and black versions, was inspired by the T-shirt that Davies wore on the video for the song.

Aside from Crazy, the other six designs include Nothing Too Serious, Primitive Man, Great Southern Land, Electric Blue and Man of Colours. The designs can bedownload here.

Nookiee was set up recently by Josh Pell, a one time winner of the Nescafé Big Break, held each year to fund the dreams of artists and musicians.

Pell remarked, “It has been an honour to work with Iva and Icehouse. I have been a huge Icehouse fan all my life and now to work with Iva and have our own Icehouse shoes is amazing. It's a dream come true and our gift back to the fans. Our vision was to use all the iconic album art and tell the Icehouse story through sneakers. It all about the details. We have worked really hard to create little works of art for our feet!”

Davies said he was impressed by the attention Pell gave to the designs, and how he “incorporated interesting elements from our artwork into his designs. He is a true craftsman, very focussed on creating products of quality and I admire him for that. We are happy to have Nookiee represent Icehouse so well for footwear.”

Pre-orders are taken at Icehouse’s web store at www.icehouse-ivadavies.com and www.nookiee.com, with delivery within 4-6 weeks. They are also taken at the two final sold out shows at the band’s current Platinum Concert Series, this Saturday and Sunday at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney.
