Globally acclaimed didg player, composer, William Barton signs management, publishing, with G. Schirmer

Sydney-based G. Schirmer Australia has signed major didgeridoo player and multi-genre composer William Barton to worldwide management and music publishing agreements.

Barton’s compositions will be published worldwide by Music Sales’ affiliates, joining classical composers Michael Nyman, Ludovico Einaudi, Philip Glass and Tan Dun.

The Mt Isa, Queensland-born son of opera singer Delmae Barton, and a member of the mighty Kalkadungu tribe, will be managed worldwide from the Music Sales Sydney office.

Aside from contributing recordings to other artists, Barton has composed works for didgeridoo, orchestras, string quartets, jazz groups and rock bands.

One of his five albums, the seminal Kalkadungu: Music for Didjeridu and Orchestra (2012) won an ARIA for Best Classical Album.

Managing Director of G. Schirmer Australia, Jane English, says,” It’s a rare privilege to both manage and publish an artist of the talent magnitude and magnificence of William Barton.

“William is a multi-instrumentalist, is multi-talented and is on his way to global stardom.

“His performing and his composing is in heavy demand in Australia and overseas.

“He has performed for monarchy, ambassadors, governments, classical audiences, jazz audiences, rock audiences, kids who want to learn to play the didgeridoo.

“William Barton will be a household name within the next five years.”

Barton, recipient of honorary doctorates in Music from both Sydney University and Griffith University, describes his philosophy to life and music, “Every day you inhale and exhale the life of your existence, your art form, your passion – and breathe something new into your journey that forever is travelling and expanding the diversity of your soundscape.

“The three things in life I wake up to are: i) the people I love ii) the sunrise and iii) the music which encompasses a journey of the soul, spirit and harmony.

“ A gift that you wish to pass on to the next generations of storytellers as it has been gifted to you.

“It’s a huge honour to finally be with the A team who can help me realise and pursue my dreams to the extent of that which I envisage.

“Every sunrise is another step forward.

“And tomorrow I look forward to waking up and knowing that my music is alive and being shared amongst my peers and by appreciative audiences around the world.”
