Frontier Touring leads Australian promoter sales in Q3

Michael Gudinski’s Frontier Touring was the most successful Australian promoter in the world in terms of tickets sales in the third quarter. The list was compiled by US-based global magazine Pollstar.

In the Top 100 promoters in the world list – topped by Live Nation, which shifted 18.3 million tickets – Frontier Touring ranked #12 with 981,019.

Altogether six Australian promoters made the list. Nine Live was at #35 with 353, 948. Adelaide-based Adrian Bohm Presents found comedy acts worked, listed at #55 with 207, 642. Chugg Entertainment was at #59 with a tally of 197, 483, Bluesfest Byron Bay at #63 with 175,414 and Dainty Group at #88 after a show of 117,668 stubs.

Five Australian venues were among the Top 200 arenas in the world: Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena was at #30 with 289, 924 followed closely by Perth Arena at #33 with 283,384. Sydney’s Allphone Arena was at #51 (207,229), Qantas Credit Union Arena in Sydney at #56 (190,192) and Brisbane Entertainment Centre at #61 (177,989).

In the Top 100 Outdoor/ Festival Sites rankings were Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium at #23 after a sweep of 116,234 paid seatings. A tally of 105,475 put Bluesfest and Boomerang site Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm in Byron Bay at #30. Three other Australian venues also made the list for this period. At #52 was Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium (73,632), at #63 was Sydney’s Allianz Stadium (62,650) and at #80 was Sydney’s ANZ Stadium (51,131).

There were three Australian entries in the Top 100 Club Venues. Melbourne’s Corner Hotel was a high ranker, at #14 with 87, 780 attending its shows. At #93 was Northcote Social Club at #93 with 28, 648 attendances and its sister venue Newtown Social Club at #94 with 27, 209.

Melbourne’s Palais was the sole Australian ranking in the Top 100 Theatres. Its shift of 136,195 tickets during the third quarter put it at #27 of the most successful in the world.

Topping the Top 100 Tours list in the third quarter was Disney On Ice which draw 2.19 million fans. Taylor Swift was behind with 1.3 million. Sydney band 5 Seconds of Summer were at #44 after selling 355,673 on their world tour, while 318,256 AC/DC fans coming out to see Angus Young strut the stage saw the veteran hard rock band at #48.
