Cloud Control, Blasko, Preatures take out SMAC awards

Cloud Control, Sarah Blasko and The Preatures were among the musical winners at last night’s FBi SMAC Awards, held at Sydney’s Carriageworks.

Cloud Control took out Record Of The Year for their swirling, reverb-drenched, second album Dream Cave. The Sydney group also won this award for their debut album in 2009.

The Preatures’ shimmying Is This How You Feel was named Single Of The Year, adding to the group’s slowly-filling trophy cabinet. Sarah Blasko scored Live Act Of The Year for her haunting, string-laden performances in support of her I Awake record.

Electronic producer Elizabeth Rose was tipped for success with the Next Big Thing award, while hidden festival Secret Garden scored Best Music Event.

Lisa Havilah won SMAC Of The Year for her efforts in converting Sydney spaces Campbelltown Arts Centre and Carriageworks into viable venues.
