City of Melbourne launches Sunset Series, Sydney’s Twilight at Taronga ready to roll

The City of Melbourne is bringing back its popular Sunset Series, focussing on showcasing new acts at Treasury Gardens over two nights in February.

Chair of the City of Melbourne’s Arts, Culture and Heritage portfolio, Councillor Rohan Leppert, said this morning that the all-ages family-friendly Sunset Series offered free music between 5 pm and 9 pm.

“This year’s event features our most diverse line-up yet with a range of entertainers from Melbourne’s Indigenous, Pacific Island and African communities,” Councillor Leppert said.

“The Sunset Series is one way in which Council is trying to support, promote and elevate bands and performers from across Melbourne.

The first event, on February 4, is hosted by DJ MzRizk will host the 4 February event, with Kalala, Adrian Eagle, Cool Out Sun and Ajak Kwai.

Foreign Brothers host the 11 February event, with music from hip-hop group Pataphysics, all-female surf-rock ensemble TomGirl and afro band Ausecuma Beats.

The full program is available at the official website here.

In the meantime, Sydney’s all-ages summer concert series Twilight At Taronga is set to roll on Friday (February 2) for the 23rd time.

Six shows during the series, which overlooks Sydney Harbour, have already sold out.

Promoters say the February 2 date with The Jezabels and Stella Donnelly is selling fast, as is the show with Dan Sultan and The Teskey Brothers the following day.

For the first time Twilight at Taronga will have multiple bars and food trucks on the concert lawns to increase fans’ experience.

These include the Belvedere Bar/Belvedere Spritz cocktail bar, the 4 Pines Bar and The Lawns (The Bakehouse Bar).

Food trucks are offering sliders, burgers, burritos, nachos, seafood and ice cream.

All tickets to Twilight at Taronga include free same-day Zoo entry, as well as free public transport: return ferry travel from Circular Quay from 5.15pm, bus transfers from Taronga Wharf to the main Zoo entrance, and post-show buses to Spit Junction and Mosman.

All proceeds from Twilight at Taronga go back into Taronga’s ongoing conservation work.

Twilight at Taronga supports Wildlife Witness,a global campaign that aims to raise awareness about the $19 billion annual illegal wildlife trade, and empower people to take action against what has become the fourth most lucrative transnational crime after drugs, arms and human trafficking.
