Chet Faker most streamed Australian act on Spotify

Chet Faker is the most streamed Australian act on Spotify, the company revealed last night in its Year In Music report.

He was followed by Flume, Iggy Azalea, Vance Joy, Sia, 5 Seconds of Summer, Hilltop Hoods, Angus & Julia Stone, Rufus and INXS. The airing of the TV-miniseries INXS: Never Tear Us Apart earlier this year caused a 600% increase in streams of their catalogue on Spotify.

This year saw over 50 million Spotify users listen to over seven billion hours of music. Ed Sheeran was the most streamed artist in the world, listened to more than 860 million times. His x was the most streamed album of the year with 430 million streams. He also took out the most streamed male artist crown.

Katy Perry took the crown from Rihanna as the most streamed female on Spotify. Pharrell Williams’s Happy was the most streamed track in the world with 260 million players.

Spotify also revealed that October 10 was officially the loudest day of the year, with more heavy rock and metal played than any other day. May 30 was the happiest day, with the biggest number of playlists titled ‘happy’ being streamed on repeat.
