Chart Wrap: November 4, 2013

Hot 100 Another week with the same top three topping our Hot 100, but it can’t last much longer. Katy Perry’s Roar has held the top spot for nine weeks now, but it is looking set to be dethroned by Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball as soon as next week. The two have battled it out in airplay and total adds over the last four or five weeks, and it looks like they’re about to tip into Cyrus’ favour: with Perry’s new singles Unconditionally (this week #15 up from #28, #19 Shazam top tags) and Dark Horse (#20 up from #25, #2 Shazam top tags) climbing the charts, Roar is set to drop off in regards to airplay. This change will hopefully mean a move further up the chart for Jessica Mauboy’s track Pop A Bottle, which has been a fairly distant third for the last few weeks – that is if Avicii’s Hey Brother – currently sitting at #4 – doesn’t continue to rise. Zedd’s Stay The Night has moved down to #5, and Nathaniel’s You has held tight at #6 in its fifthchart week. Drake’s Hold On, We’re Going Home is making moves back up the charts again, moving from #9 last week to #7 – and #13 on Shazam’s top tags in Australia. The single is still doing well overseas, sitting at #5 in the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on Shazam, a welcome present for Drizzy who celebrated his birthday last week in Toronto. Calvin Harris has broken into the top 10 with Under Control in its fifthweek in the chart. Lorde’s Team is up five spots from last week, hitting #13, which is a new peak for the single. I say this every week but I really love reporting on her progress around the world, and it seems like her takeover of the UK airwaves is well and truly under way. Her debut single Royals had a 40% increase in audience and a 32% increase in plays from last week, catapulting her from #8 to #2, according to MusicWeek. She’s also #2 on the UK Singles chart, the UK iTunes chart, and Shazam’s top tags. Stateside, she’s held onto the Billboard #1 another week, bringing her total reign time up to five weeks – crazy considering she’s the first artist from New Zealand to ever take #1. She also holds #1 on the Shazam top tags for the US, whileRoyals, Team and Tennis Court occupy #1, 3 and 5 on the ARIA streaming chart. Lana Del Rey and Cedric Gervais’ Young & Beautiful is up fifteen places from last week to now sit at #21 and is set to overtake their last single Summertime Sadness, which has moved down from #13 to #17. Imagine Dragons’ new single Demons is on its way up; moving 15 places in its second week to sit at #30, the single is also currently at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #12 on Shazam. Speaking of big movers, Little Mix and Iggy Azalea’s new tracks are leaving the pack behind, with Move jumping up from #72 to #36 and Change Your Life up 50 places from its #92 debut last week to hit #42. Afrojack’s new single ft. Spree Wilson The Spark is also enjoying some solid movement: up 32 places from last week, to inside the top 50 at #44. There’s an abundance of new tracks to break the Hot 100 this week: six in total. Starting with Do What U Want, the new single from queen of crazy (and booty, if the single artwork has anything to say about it) Lady Gaga. She’s debuted at #23 this week. Also inside the top 30 is Aussie Guy Sebastian’s Like A Drum, which he performed on last week’s X Factor grand final. In at #28 he was also featured in our Most Added chart this week. A little further down the chart Jessie J’s new track Thunder debuts at #37; Taylor Swift’s Sweeter Than Fiction debuts at #48, thanks to strong support from the Today Network; Flo Rida’s How I Feel came in at #50, and Lupe Fiasco debuted at #55 with Old School Love –which features Ed Sheeran. ARIA SINGLES X Factordominates the ARIA Singles chart this week: four of the top five performed on the show’s semi-final or grand final. The new number one is the show’s winner Dami Im, and her first single,Alive. The Series 5 winner continues the streak of X Factor winners hitting #1, after Reece Mastin in 2011 and Samantha Jade in 2012. She’s finally managed to throw off Katy Perry’s Roar, which enjoyed a staggering nine weeks at the top. Perry performed Roar and new single Unconditionally across the country this past week, including a performance at the Opera House for Sunrise, and a spot onX Factor. Unsurprisingly,Unconditionally also debuted in the chart this week, at #11. One Direction’s new single Story Of My Life enjoys a #3 debut this week. It’s the bands fourth Top 5 hit and comes just after their recent record-breaking tour of our fine shores. Guy Sebastian’s Like A Drum is in at #4 this week, mirroring its success in our Hot 100 – no doubt due to his appearance on X Factor’s grand final. It’s Guy’s first single to hit the ARIA charts for almost a year and is the first single to come from his seventh studio album, due out early next year. Last week’s Most Added track at radio, The Monster by Eminem and Rihanna, also made a debut on the chart this week at #13. It’s the fourth single from The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and his second single in recent time to feature Rihanna; the first, Love The Way You Lie, topped the chart for six weeks. ARIA ALBUMS Katy Perry’s Prism tops the chart this week, news that comes at no surprise to anyone. Katy Perry is on top of the world right now; Prism is the third major-label album from Perry and the second to top the ARIA Albums chart. Lorde’s Pure Heroine is back up to #2 this week, following all the crazy international attention she’s getting. James Blunt’s Moon Landing is down to #3 and last week’s #1, Triple J’s Like A Version is down to #4. Western Sydney rapper Kerser’s new album S.C.O.T. is in at #5. It’s the third album from Kerser and follow up to last November’s No Rest For The Sickest, which peaked at #15. Linkin Park’s sixth album Recharged debuts at #7; its their second remix album. Beyonce’s 2011 record4is also back in the charts, at #15 this week, off the back of her current national tour.
