ARIA Chart Predictions: Three debut albums stake their Top 10 claims

THE HOME FRONT

Taylor Swift brazenly stormed to the top of the ARIA Singles Chart last week with ‘Look What You Made Do’. Following on this week, new cut ‘…Ready For It?’ is tipped to make its way to the upper echelon, presumably landing on the fringe of the Top 10.

Demi Lovato may well leap into the Top 10 with ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ slow burning its way up the chart. It will be a new peak for the track which is currently on the precipice at #11.

Debuts from The Script (Freedom Child)and LCD Soundsystem (American Dream), as well as Neil Finn’s Out Of Silence, will battle it out for spots in the lower half of the Top 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

It’s doubtful they will crack the Top 5 however with the likes of Paul Kelly and the immovable Ed Sheeran still generating solid sales numbers. The latter has been a firm fixture in the chart for 26 weeks now.

Vance Joy’s Dream Your Life Away will climb the chart this week, as will Carol King’s Tapestry, with both albums set to run out of steam upon hitting the Top 10 barrier.

OVERSEAS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

Swift has dethroned ‘Despacito’ at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100, putting a halt to its record-tying 16 weeks at #1. It’s Swift’s fifth #1 on the chart and the accolades don’t stop there. According to Billboard, ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ has achieved the fifth largest jump to #1 in the chart’s history, 20 frames short of Kelly Clarkson’s 96 spot leap in 2009 with ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’.

Fonsi’s ‘Despacito’ is not going anywhere on the Hot Latin Songs chart, however, claiming it’s 30th week at #1. Only Enrique Iglesias‘Bailando’ ft. Descemer Bueno & Gente de Zona has more with 41 weeks.

On to albums, SoundCloud sensation Lil Uzi Vert is holding down the Billboard 200 with debut studio album Luv Is Rage 2. LCD Soundsystem will apply some pressure this week, however, with latest American Dream.

There’s currently over 10,000 sales units between The Script and LCD Soudsystem on the UK Albums Chart, leading us to believe that The Script will secure a debut #1.

TOP PICKS

  • Taylor’s ’…Ready For It?’ to land at#12 on the ARIA Singles Chart.
  • The Script takes out this week’s highest debut on the ARIA Albums Chart at #6.
