Avicii releasing game as PS4 exceeds 30m sales mark

Avicii is releasing a new EDM-themed video game for Vecture, exclusive to PlayStation 4. The news comes as Sony announces that PS4 console’s global sales have now passed the 30 million mark.

Vecture is a multi-player racing game with colourful graphics is designed to appeal to both gamers and EDM fans, and due for release next year.

The Swedish house superstar and avid Playstation gamer calls it “a new type of music rhythm game” and it “adds a new dimension to my music and extends the experience. The game allows you to be creative, designing your own levels.”

Each track is a different cut of music. During the game, the players get to change the music and, in effect, remix tracks with each play.

Avicii’s collaboration with game developer Hello There did not extend to programming or designing Vecture. But aside from contributing tracks and exclusive remixes to it, he did extensively test the game and offered feedback.

Avicii has been expanding his brand from music. Rated the sixth highest paid in the world by Forbes magazine in August (at US$19 million), he’s already hinting at a follow up next year to the just-released Stories which debuted at #1 on the EDM charts to mixed reviews.

His endorsements include Ralph Lauren for whom he plays shows and features in ads. He’s also directed music videos for Pure Grinding and For A Better Day.

Last week, Sony revealed it sold over 30.2 million PlayStation 4 video game consoles in 124 countries. The system, released in November 2013, has sold faster than any of its predecessors. Sony will ship 17.5 million units during the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2016, and has slashed prices in major markets to push sales.

Ps4 is the fastest selling console in Australia, according to Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and New Zealand.

Over the coming holiday period, he said, “We look forward to maintaining momentum to build on an already wide reaching base to not only be the best place to play, but also the best place to be entertained, with our ever growing suite of endless entertainment options such as Stan, Netflix, Spotify, ABC iView, PLUS7, SBS On Demand and Quickflix. There is truly something for everyone.”
