AU Singles Report: Katy Perry breaks debut chart record with new smash hit

Katy Perry makes her triumphant return to commercial radio with Chained To The Rhythm ft. Skip Marley, her first single since 2016’s #1 ARIA Charting single Rise. The track also debuted at #8 on the Hot 100 this week, setting a new record for the highest ever debut in the chart’s history, beating out Justin Timberlake’s record by one spot.

The commercial Hit Network have put all their weight behind Katy Perry’s new track, making it the most spun song on the network. Added to 81 stations, the other major contributors were the Nova Network, both KIIS stations, and the Hit Regional Network, all of which added it across the board.

Ed Sheeran’s hold at #1 with Shape Of You and #2 with Castle On The Hill continues for another week on the Artist Top 50, while Snakehips’ Don’t Leave ft. MØ takes a new peak, now at #4 from #36 on its fourth week in the chart.

Elsewhere, Kygo has produced another light tropical house treat titled It Ain’t Me ft. Selena Gomez, this week’s #1 New Single Release. Given both of the artists’ hit pedigrees, the new track ought to have no trouble gaining traction on commercial radio.
