ART Music Awards back for fifth year

ART Music Awards back for fifth year

The ART Music Awards are back for a fifth year, covering contemporary art music, jazz and experimental music.

Produced by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Music Centre, they are held Tuesday August 11 at the City Recital Hall in Sydney.

Brett Cottle, APRA AMCOS CEO said, “The Art Music Awards are more than celebrating the success of winners, they are an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the achievements of the art music industry as a whole.

“The awards are a show of support to the composers and creators, as well as the academics and educators, who continue to innovate and experiment despite the challenges faced within the creative arts sector.”

The night is again hosted by Fenella Kernebone, current host of triple j’s long running, cult electronic music show The Sound Lab and Radio National’s By Design.

The national awards cover Work of the Year for orchestral, instrumental, vocal/choral and jazz. There is a category for Performance of the Year, and awards for excellence in jazz, and by an organisation, an individual, in music education and in a regional area. Excellence in Experimental Music can go to works, people or events.

There is also an award for each State or Territory, gathered from one of the eleven national categories listed above.

The APRA board and the Australian Music Centre all choose a recipient for Distinguished Services to Australian Music.

Finalists for the 2015 ART Music Awards will be announced in the next few weeks.
