Alcatel Onetouch takes naming rights for Your Shot DJ competition

Global smartphone brand Alcatel Onetouch became the first naming rights sponsor for Australia’s Your Shot DJ Competition.

The quest, now in its sixth year provides aspiring DJs the chance to learn their skills over a six-week training course and transform their passion into a music career.

Heats continued through April across NSW, Queensland and Victoria with the finale set for later this month. The winner performs atStereosonic in November and December. Former winners as DJ Tigerlilly, J-Trick and New World Sound have gained a global presence since.

Alcatel Onetouch’s Regional Marketing Manager for ANZ and Asia Pacific, Nic Ferraro, said that both the brand and the competition shared a similar demographic.

“We appreciate the importance of supporting our local community and initiatives that mean a lot to them,” he said. “We are excited and delighted to be able to support young Aussies as they embark on an experience of a lifetime.

“Your Shot attracts a high proportion of millennials, which is perfect because millennials were born on the Internet and live on their smartphones. It is important for us to support this youth market, they’re the heart and soul of Alcatel Onetouch.”

Steve Pillemer, founder of Your Shot, revealed that Alcatel Onetouch’s brand ethos “resonates deeply with us.We always envisioned a handful of partners who understood the power of this audience. This is not just a DJ competition, this is an entire generation of young talented people that with the right training, will have the time of their lives and a few will reach great heights in both their personal and professional lives.

"We are excited that Alcatel Onetouch has come on board as naming rights sponsor and believe together we can both continue to forge new ground in music culture and mobile services.”

It’s not the first time that Alcatel Onetouch has moved into the EDM space.It has an existing global sponsorship deal with Avicii and a custom version of Cross DJ app embedded across certain device ranges.

As revealed this month in The Music Network, Your Shot is being adopted for an American version this year, lead by Tiesto.
