Airbourne, Kagu, score overseas deals

Two acts from Victoria, hard rock band Airbourne and indie artistKagu (pictured), have signed overseas deals.

Airbourne signed a worldwide deal with heavy metal label Spinefarm Records. Based in Finland, it has offices in the UK and US and is now part of the Universal Music Group.

"We're pumped up to have signed on the dotted line to the world's toughest and truest hard rock label,” the band said. The deal sees them reunite with Spinefarm GM Jonas Nachsin, who was President of their last label, Roadrunner.

The Warrnambool-based band – who count AC/DC’s Angus Young among their fans – are currently writing their fourth album, to be released this year. Their first three albums Runnin' Wild (2007), No Guts. No Glory (2010) and Black Dog Barking (2013) charted in America and Europe.

Sean Heathcliff, former singer with Melbourne band Snakadaktal, signed his debut solo project Kagu to a Europe-wide deal with Berlin based Humming Records. Humming has introduced Australian acts including Cloud Control, DZ Deathrays and Snakadaktal to Europe.

Kagu is signed for Australia and New Zealand with Liberation Music, which will release the Kagu debut EP on March 6. The new single Human, out last week, is on triple j rotation. The EP was produced by Dann Hume who did the honours on Snakadaktal’s album Sleep In The Water, which debuted in the Top 10 of the ARIA chart.
