APRA AMCOS launches new music production workshops for women

Equalize is a new full-day ticketed music production workshops for women and non-binary songwriter and composers.

They are for members of APRA AMCOS, which is staging them in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

Tying in with International Women’s Day on March 8, they are held in the different cities through the month.

Workshops will be led by experts in their respective field.

They include APRA Screen Music Award-winning composer and screen composers guild AGSC president Caitlin Yeo, electronic producer Mookhi, mixer/engineer Antonia Gauci, and Studio 301’s Shelley Bishop.

Also instructing are producer Jan Skubiszewski, screen composer Bryony Marks (Please Like Me, Barracuda), art music composer and Ableton certified trainer Eve Klein, and Ninajirachi for Liveschool.

” Equalize has been designed to provide women and non-binary songwriters and composers with hands-on skills development in a professional studio setting alongside established music producers and creators,” APRA AMCOS head of member services Jana Gibson said.

“The initiative aims to highlight music production as a viable career pathway for this underrepresented sector of our membership.”

A recent and widely-cited report from USC’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative found that of 871 credited producers on 400 Billboard Hot 100 chart songs from 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2018, only 2.1% of producers were female.
