Ziggy Marley, one of reggae legend Bob Marley’s eleven children and a talented artist in his own right, is teaming up with Paramount Pictures in the development of a biopic based on his father’s life.

At this stage, there are no details on a release date and who might play the icon.

A number of documentaries have been made on the life of the remarkable man who brought reggae out of Jamaica and into a world recognition.

Ziggy made one. In 2008, as did an ex-girlfriend. Martin Scorsese began one but dropped out due to scheduling issues.

The Weinstein Company planned one based on the book by Bob’s wife Rita, No Woman No Cry: My Life With Bob Marley.

Certainly, there’s enough there in Bob’s life to make compelling viewing.

The marijuana-addicted son of a white father and Jamaican mother, Marley was shunned by Jamaican society – which fuelled his anger and sense of social injustice along with the spirituality and hope stemming from his Rastafarian faith.

These found their way into his songs, and songs like ‘I Shot The Sheriff’, ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ and ‘No Woman No Cry’ were adopted as anthems by indigenous nations around the world, including First Australians and Native Americans.

The movie would capture many aspects of Marley’s life, including an attempted assassination because of his huge popularity in Jamaica,

After Marley died at 36 in May 1981 from cancer, songs as ‘One Love’, ‘Three Little Birds’ and ‘Redemption Song’ continued to resonate with younger generations.

Albums as Catch A Fire, Natty Dread, Exodus and Rastaman Vibrations have sold 75 million copies.
