Your Shot DJ comp turns 10, expands to Perth

Your Shot is celebrating its 10th birthday, with organisers announcing this year’s DJ comp will expand to Perth.

Your Shot has seen almost 7,000 aspiring DJs launch their careers in the Aussie music industry, with the likes of Tigerlily, J-Trick, Hydraulix, Go Freek and Nyxen all getting their starts.

60% of those who’ve completed the competition regularly play DJ gigs or residencies across the country.

Now, Your Shot is set to add a Perth date to existing comps in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, in what promises to be its biggest year yet.

The comp was founded by Aussie entrepreneur Steve Pillemer, who last year spoke with TMN and hailed the longevity of the competition despite the demise of Sydney’s nightlife.

“They say a 10-year milestone is a time to look back and reflect,” he said of Your Shot turning 10.

“I started Your Shot with the fundamental goal of helping young Australians turn their dreams into reality.

“I really want the contestants to look up at their favourite DJ and think it’s totally achievable, not just a fantasy. There are literally thousands of young Australians out there who have a passion for music, but don’t know how to go about it.”

Pillemer has even taken the competition to reality TV in the USA and brought on board superstar Dutch producer and DJ Tiesto as a global ambassador.

“The great thing about Your Shot is that win or lose, you get a great platform to learn, grow & achieve great things”, he said.

BRISBANE: May 11, Birdees, 608 Ann St, Fortitude Valley, QLD

SYDNEY: May 18, Home the Venue, 101/1-5 Wheat Rd, Darling Harbour NSW

MELBOURNE:  June 1, Royal Melbourne Hotel, 629 Bourke St Melbourne, VIC

PERTH:  June 8, The Court, 50 Beaufort St, Perth, WA
