WA acts, managers, added to Singapore’s Music Matters

Five West Australian acts and three artist managers will join the Australian contingent attending or speaking at Singapore’s Music Matters conference and showcase.

Said to be Asia’s highest profile music export event, Music Matters is held May 20 to 24.

The WA connection comes as part of the Singapore Western Australian Music Exchange (SWAME), set up in 2013 by Perth-based association WAM and Singapore’s Timbre Music. They showcase each others’ music at their events. In late June, three WA acts to be announced, will play at Timbre’s signature event Beerfest Asia 2015 before 30,000 punters.

The WA group is the largest to attend the event from the state. The five acts selected for Music Matters are MC Coin Banks, blues-rock multi-instrumentalist and singer songwriter Morgan Bain (pictured), indie electronic producer and songwriter Angus Dawson, country music performer Courtney Conway and rock band Our Man in Berlin. They showcase at Music Matters Live alongside 80 acts from around the world.

The managers, going as part of SWAME’s Managers Opportunity initiative, are Jacob Snell of Monster Management (Split Seconds, Boom! Bap! Pow!, Stillwater Giants, Methyl Ethel), Alex Paioff of Metric Promotions and Pilerats Records (Sable) and Xanthea O’Connor (Joni In The Moon, Golden String).

Other Australians attending Music Matters include Scot Morris of APRA AMCOS, Dan Nevin of AIR, Andrew Stone of Chugg Entertainment, Mark Smith of NT Music, Jason Fielder of The Sound Campaign, Stephen Deane of Guvera and Stuart Watters of Nightlife Music.

Other corporations and associations represented include CAA, Direct Management (manager of Katy Perry), AEG Worldwide and AEG Live, Merlin, Universal Music Group, Imago Recording Company, Rdio, PepsiCo and Tingyi Asahi Beverages China, Getty Images, Rightster, TenThirtyOne, Chrysalis Records, Stylehaul, FremantleMedia Asia, Google Asia Pacific, Victorious, ABC Event Production, Sennheiser Greater China, Billboard Magazine, Vice and YouTube.
