TikTok artists sweep the ARIA Top 5 as Arizona Zervas eyes the summit
The influence of TikTok was laid bare this week, with LA-based Arizona Zervas reaching #2 on the ARIA Singles Chart.
His single ‘ROXANNE’ is the latest example of an artist using the TikTok platform to achieve mainstream streaming and sales success, following the path tread this year by the likes of Lil Nas X and Regard (the latter sits at #3 this week with ‘Ride It’).
As Billboard reports, the single wasn’t immediately made available on major DSPs, therefore forcing fans to listen to and create content featuring ‘ROXANNE’ on TikTok, where it has been featured in over 1.2 million videos.
The result was a huge number of streams in its first few weeks after the official release.
Now 24-year-old Zervas is eyeing off the summit of the ARIA Singles Chart in just his third charting week, having also reached a new peak of #7 on the UK Singles Chart and rising to #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
To get to #1 he’ll need to knock off a giant, with Tones And I racking up her 18th week at #1 off the back of winning four ARIAs last week including Best Female Artist.
Interestingly, it’s only ‘Dance Monkey’ that stands in the way of ‘ROXANNE’ hitting the top of Spotify’s Global Streaming Chart.
The track is being backed heavily by Australian radio too, debuting at #69 on the TMN Hot 100 powered by Radio Monitor, and early data suggests it’s on track to crack the Top 40 this week.
With two of the Top 5 ARIA Singles breaking through on TikTok, there is now a clear, if unconventional route to fame through the platform.
Topping TMN’s Singles To Radio this week is ‘Yellow Hearts’ by Ant Saunders, who could well be the to follow what’s now becoming a well-trodden path.
