Ten confirm plans for new channel that could include MTV shows

Network Ten is planning to launch a new multi-channel focussed on entertainment content.

The schedule is expected to include programming from parent company ViacomCBS, with Ten poised to reveal more details “this week”, according to Mumbrella.

ViacomCBS, who entered into a new deal to replace Foxtel-owned music channels last week, also controls iconic small screen brands MTV and Nickelodeon.

A Ten spokesperson confirmed in a statement on Monday it would unveil a fourth channel.

“Complementing 10, 10 Peach and 10 Bold, the fourth channel will appeal to the under 50s audience. Further announcements about the channel will be made in the coming months.”

ViacomCBS has a first-run agreement with Foxtel, but as Mumbrella reports, Ten would have access to an impressive and rich back catalogue of content.

That catalogue could include locally-produced shows from MTV like Unplugged and The Veronica’s reality TV show, which the network considered a commercial success.

TV Blackbox first reported mumblings that  could launch as a free-to-air multichannel last September, but insiders told TMN no such deal was on the cards at the time.

Ten will host its mid-year upfront event this week, where it’s expected to reveal more details.
