Tame Impala’s third album titled Currents

Tame Impala’s third album titled Currents

Tame Impala’s follow up to global breakthrough Lonerism will be titled Currents.

The band posted the news online on Sunday, simultaneously unveiling the album art cover. A release date is still not finalised.

The Perth band also premiered without fanfare on YouTube the intense synth/ guitar ballad Cause I’m A Man on the weekend. It had earlier shared the epic near eight-minute Let It Happen on its website. So many fans logged on to hear the track that the site had a melt-down.

Tame Impala’s first two albums, Innerspeaker (2010) and Lonerism (2012) both peaked at #4 in Australia, with the band winning Best Album and Best Rock Album, as well as Best Band, at the 2013 ARIA awards. Lonerism reached #14 in the UK, #34 in the US, #38 in Belgium, #39 in Ireland and #58 in the Netherlands. It was voted album of the year by England’s New Musical Express and won triple j’s J Award.

Leader Kevin Parker has revealed that he offsets the pressure of following up a hit album. He writes every day, only records as the fancy takes him, and also works on a number of side projects at the same time.

It is expected that Tame Impala will be unveiling most, if not all, of Current on their 40-date US and European tour. It kicks off tomorrow (Wednesday April 8) with a warm up club date in Pomana, California before two sets at the Coachella festival. The tour wraps up on September 12 at Lollapalooza Berlin.

Many of these dates are festival appearances. These include Shady Knees in Atlanta, Sasquatch! In Georgia, Bunbury Music in Cincinnati, Governor’s Ball in New York, Lollapalooza Chicago, Outside Lands in San Francisco, Parades de Coura in Vienna, Zurich Open Air and England’s End of the Road and Isle of Wight.
