EXCLUSIVE: Spotify announces ideas series Spotify Talks

To celebrate Spotify’s fifth year of operation in Australia, TMN can reveal the streaming giant is launching Spotify Talks, a monthly series of thought leadership events exploring music in Australia.

The first event – ‘The More We Know, The Louder We Get’ – will be staged on Spotify’s fifth birthday on May 25, featuring three diverse sessions: ‘Mind Music’, ‘In Conversation with… and ‘Musical Fingerprints – Breaking Borders’.

Mind Music will see Professor Peter Keller(right) delve into the world of neuroscience using cutting edge demonstrations to explore the impact music has on the human brain.

The session will showcase multiple world-first scientific and technological breakthroughs, including first real-time detection of rhythm from brain activity.

After recently stepping down as That Movie Guy on triple j, Marc Fennell will sit down with Spotify’s Head of Artist & Label Services International Kevin Brown in Session #2, ’In Conversation with…’

The pair will examineways in which Spotify is supporting artists, delivering the best music experience to a global audience and contributing to the growth of the larger music industry ecosystem.

Rounding out the day, ‘Musical Fingerprints – Breaking Borders’ will bring togetheran industry panel consisting of Spotify ANZ Senior Music EditorAlicia Sbrugnera, Spotify ANZ Artist & Label Services ManagerTom Mee, and Saiko Management’sScott Maclachlan, plus a special guest artist.

Each panellist plays a key role in helping local artists reach a new global audience and will flesh out the tools and skills needed to market and export music in the streaming age.

UpcomingSpotify Talks events will draw attention to other currentindustry issues such as women in music (June),harnessingdata (July), mindfulness and diversity.

The More We Know, The Louder We Get will be held at Sydney’s Chauvel Theatre. Spotify Talks will relocate to CAKE Wines, Cellar Door in Redfern for subsequent events.
