Splendour ticket buyers overcharged thousands in online error

Ticketing website Moshtix may have been hacked this morning, as customers purchasing tickets to July’s Splendour In The Grass festival were charged thousands of dollars in credit card fees.

Shortly after tickets went on sale at 9am today, the festival’s Facebook page was bombarded with comments from hopeful punters who said they had either been removed from the queue or were charged extremely high credit card fees; some complained they received fees in the ballpark of  $4,000.

Purchaser Keelan O’Neill posted the following photo on Splendour’s Facebook page:

It’s believed the hacker created an additional ticket option, charging high fees to anyone purchasing tickets tagged with ’50% off’. At 10am, Splendour organisers told their Facebook audience: “Under no circumstances purchase any “50% off” tickets – THEY WILL NOT BE VALID”.

“During today’s Splendour in the Grass on-sale, due to technical issues some customers were erroneously offered reduced priced tickets and charged incorrect credit card fees.

All of these affected orders will be cancelled today, and customers contacted to allow them to purchase at the correct prices. This was an isolated technical issue that did not affect other ticket buyers and tickets are continuing to sell fast for the festival.

In response to speculation regarding unauthorised / illegal access of personal information, we can confirm that no credit card information has been compromised during the technical issues experienced this morning.
