Sia, Nick Cave nominated for Brit Awards

Australian acts Sia and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are among those nominated for the BRIT Awards 2017. Sia is up for International Female Solo Artist alongside Beyoncé, Christine And The Queens, Rihanna and Solange. The Bad Seeds are included in the International Group category, with A Tribe Called Quest, Drake & Future and Kings Of Leon.

This year marks a voting overhaul by the awards after the 2016 event faced calls for a boycott after BAME (black, Asian and minority ethnic) artists were absent from all but the international categories.

This year’s nominations list sees representation by more female artists and BAME acts. There was a distinct recognition of the thriving grime scene with one of its figureheads, Skepta, gaining three nominations. Major black acts Craig David, Kano, Stormzy and Michael Kiwanuka were also recognised.

Also, for the first time, the BRIT nominations will be televised on ITV with performances from Craig David, Calum Scott, Christine And The Queens and Rag ’N’ Bone Man.
