Shazam reveals Australia’s most tagged songs & artists of 2017

Shazam has revealed Australia’s mosttagged songs and artists of the year with ’Way Down We Go’ by Icelandic blues rockers Kaleo coming out on top of the pile.

The trackfinished aboveJax Jones’ immensely catchy ’You Don’t Know Me’ ft. RAYE andLiam Payne’s ’Strip That Down’ ft. Quavo, while Ed Sheeran’s ’Shape Of You’ and ’Perfect’ rounded out the top five.

It may come as a surprise that Kaleo’s top tagged track was actually released in October 2016, but as with many Shazam success stories, the tune featured abundantly across various media this year and last.

’Way Down We Go’ featured in the trailers for Netflix original comedy-dramaOrange Is The New Black and Hugh Jackman’s final X-Men filmLogan. In addition it has been used in the filmCollateral Beauty, and in TV shows includingSuits, Supergirl, Grey’s Anatomy, Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries, The Blacklist and Riverdale.

The list contained just the one Aussie, with singer-songwriter Dean Lewis coming in at #6 for his breakthrough track ’Waves’.

With two tracks in the top 10, it comes as no surprise that Ed Sheeran came in as the most tagged artist of 2017.

He was followed by Calvin Harris, DJ Khaled and our own Dean Lewis, who once again was the only Australian in the Top 10 – although our neighbours across the ditch secured 10th spot thanks toLorde.

22 year-old US artist Post Malone’s breakthrough into the mainstream consciousness was reflected even in Australia, as he came in at #5.

Shazam also revealed the most tagged tracks per age demographic.

When it came to 13-17 year olds, ’All Time Low’ by Jon Bellion was the preferred tag, the 18-24 bracket stayed close to home, preferring Lewis’ ’Waves’.

25-34 year olds and those between the ages of 35 and 44 clearly Shazamed more whilst in front of the TV, with ’Way Down We Go’ topping their most tagged.

Perhaps surprisingly, both the 45-54 and 55+ brackets were full of Sheeran fans, each tagging ’Perfect’ more than any other tune.
