Kasey Chambers, Sarah Blasko, Emily Wurramara Lead Lineup For 2024 AWMAs
ARIA Hall of Famer Kasey Chambers joins Sarah Blasko and Emily Wurramara on the line-up of performers for the 2024 Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMAs), set for Oct. 2 at The Fortitude Music Hall in Meanjin/Brisbane.
Yumi Stynes returns as co-host with veteran rock star Sarah McLeod, who will perform on the night alongside the likes of Mo’Ju, Nina Korbe, Katie Noonan & Karin Schaupp, Ripple Effect Band, Karen Lee Andrews.
The fifth annual music industry event recognises “the vast contribution of Australian female, nonbinary and GNC artists, musicians and music practitioners across all areas of the industry,” reads a statement, “celebrating contributions from all countries and cultures.”
As previously reported, 19 award categories will be presented on the evening including the 2024 Inspiration Award while “two extraordinary matriarchs” will be inducted into the AWMA Honour Roll.
Attendees will walk the “Black Carpet,” hosted by hip-hop artist Kween G with MC and singer Sheba, who will also DJ this year’s after party at The Outpost, upstairs at The Fortitude.
For the first time, the AWMA 2024 Conference will be hosted at the Queensland Multicultural Centre in Kangaroo Point on Tuesday, Oct. 1 as part of the AWMA two-day program.
The daytime program will focus on gender equality and diversity, and includes a First Nations Women’s Forum “Yarning Strong – Always Was, Always Will Be Blak Matriarch Energy (presented by Support Act through JB Hi-Fi’s Helping Hands Program) and “Greening Up Our Act,” a session on how artists, festivals and industry are sowing the seeds for a greener music scene (presented by Green Music Australia).
Also, AWMA unveils a three-year education partnership with Collarts, Australia’s leading tertiary arts education college with a focus on industry-based learning in the arts and entertainment industries.
The AWMAs are spearheaded by founding executive producer and program director Vicki Gordon. “The inaugural AWMA in 2018 was a watershed moment for the Australian music industry,” says Gordon of an event that, since its inauguration, has received 1,544 nominations, named 190 finalists celebrated 73 award recipients.
