Samsung closing Music Hub in Australia

Samsung closing Music Hub in Australia

Days after Telstra announced the closure of BigPond Music, Samsung Electronics announced that it is closing its Music Hub service in Australia on December 31.

It unveiled the news on its Music Hub site:

“As of 00:00AM 31 December 2014, you will not have access to Samsung Music Hub® or any playlists or music cached to your device via the Samsung Music Hub® app. You can continue to enjoy your music until that point, however if you would like to end your monthly subscription now, just head over to https://www.music-hub.com.au/account/subscription and select 'cancel subscription'. No subscriptions will be renewed, and no transactions will occur after 30 November 2014.”

The post teased that a replacement would be announced soon, "Stay tuned for an exciting new music experience from us soon!"

The closure of the Australian site is a turn-around from when Samsung shuttered Music Hub in most countries from July 1. But Australia was spared at the time. In a statement it said, “Samsung Electronics Australia remains committed to Samsung Music Hub in Australia and providing an amazing music experience through our products. We currently have no plans to discontinue Samsung Music Hub in this country.”

Set up as a streaming service for its phones and to use as a platform to promote some of its devices, Music Hub launched in Australia in October 2011.
