Police make 65 drug-related arrests at Sydney’s State of Trance

Surveillance by police and the dog unit saw 65 charged with drug-related issues at The State of Trance which started at 9pm Saturday and wound up at 5am Sunday.

The event drew 12,700 to Sydney Olympic Park to see a bill of high profile DJs headed by Armin Van Buuren and Gaia.

Eight people were charged with supplying drugs.

These included a 20-year-old man allegedly with 150 caps of MDMA, 26 ecstasy tablets and eight grams of cocaine, a 19-year-old man allegedly with 120 MDMA caps and a 23-year-old woman allegedly with 47 MDMA caps.

They face Burwood Local Court on May 10.

At the same time, medicos were also kept busy, with 45 suspected overdoses, according to NSW police, and three male patrons aged 18 to 22 recovering in Concord Hospital from suspected drug overdoses.

South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad Commander Detective Inspector Gus Viera called the figures alarming.

“It never ceases to amaze me how many people ignore all the warnings – not only health warnings but the awareness that there will be a high-visibility police operation – then choose to carry illegal drugs into the venue.

“We’ve detected dozens of young people carrying substances which could not only result in a criminal charge but – if taken – could be life-threatening.”
