Pandora announces lineup for Sydney Warehouse event

Former Editor

Music streaming and internet radio company Pandora has this morning announced the lineup for its inaugural Pandora Warehouse event.

New Zealand’s Ladyhawke, hip hop artist Seth Sentry, Sydney indie rockers The Griswolds, ARIA winner Nicole Millar and Melbourne genre-crosser Ecca Vandal will perform at a secret location in Sydney on October 8.

Tickets are available exclusively to Pandora listeners, who can register to win them through the Pandora Warehouse mixtape www.pandora.com/warehouse2016.

The local event adds to the more than 80 live events Pandora holds in the United States each year. These include Summer Crush in Los Angeles (this year with Fergie and 5 Seconds of Summer), the Pandora Discovery Den at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and Pandora Holiday in New York City.

The move to add events in Australia – one of only three locations in which it operates after the US and New Zealand – follows the Pandora’s introduction of a concert recommendations feature. Using its ticket distribution service Ticketfly, which it acquired for US$450 million last October, the suggestions are for Ticketfly’s 1,100 venues in the United States and Canada, based on users’ listening habits.

According to Financial Times, Pandora is fast closing in on inking its licensing deals with record labels. This would allow it to stream an on-demand music service in the US and new overseas markets. The service, reportedly based on the “key assets” it acquired from Rdio, will apparently offer users two price tiers by changing its current $5 per month ad-free tier and adding more features to it, like offline streaming.
