Zac Denton, drummer and songwriter with Melbourne band The Ocean Party has died from a brain cyst at age 24.

Complaining of a migraine, he was admitted to St. Vincent’s Hospital last Sunday evening.

Brain scans showed a cyst blocking the fluids from draining from his brain.

The band posted on social media: “The doctors did what they could to relieve the fluid but swelling of the brain was too much.”

Born in Wagga Wagga, Denton, moved to Melbourne in 2012 as an 18-year old and joined The Ocean Party.

The band said, “He was welcomed with open arms and was an integral member of the band in no time.

“His warmth and charm was quick to infect so many people.”

He wrote songs for the band, as well as for Ciggie Witch, Pregnancy and Hobby Farm.

The new Ocean Party LP, The Oddfellows’ Hall, features two of his compositions, ‘Home’ and ‘Rain On Tin’.

The band explained, “They reflect on his love for his family and his hometown and a desire to let them know the love felt towards them.”
