Nine bringing back ‘The Voice’ with a world-first format twist

Following on the heels of Married At First Sight and Lego Masters, Nine is consolidating its Sunday night prime time firepower by bringing The Voice back on May 19 for its eighth season.

Last year, The Voice delivered an average of 1.7 million national viewers and 3.5 million votes cast in home judging.

The 2019 show premieres over three nights – May 19, Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 21.

In the swirling red chairs are Kelly Rowland, Delta Goodrem, Boy George and, this year, Guy Sebastian.

“I’m really pumped to be a coach on the new season of The Voice,” Sebastian said.

“Being a musician over the last 15 years has been an extremely fulfilling time.

“I love that I can share my experience with new aspiring artists so we can inject some fresh talent into the music industry.”

This year, in a world first for the Voice format, Blind Auditions will bring back fan favourites from past seasons who missed out the first time.

Nine’s head of content, production and development, Adrian Swift explains, “Over the years brilliant singers have been knocked out of The Voice along the way.

“Sometimes they weren’t confident enough, sometimes it wasn’t their best performance the day they were on stage.

“So this year they’re coming back.”

After the Battles, 16 battle in the Finals to get to the Grand Final where a recording deal with EMI and $100,000 cash await.

The Voice is filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney and produced by ITV studios for Nine.
